Norwegian maritime company Boa orders heavy lift barge from Chinese shipyard

Norwegian maritime company Boa has placed an order for a semi-submersible heavy lift barge with Dalian Shipbuilding Offshore Co. in China, further strengthening maritime collaboration between Norway and China in the shipbuilding sector. The agreement also includes an option for an additional unit, reflecting Boa’s expansion strategy.

The new vessel, named Boabarge 39, is an in-house design first introduced in November 2023. The barge is scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of 2026 and will measure 166 meters in length, designed for heavy-load transportation, offshore decommissioning, drydocking, salvage operations, and float-off projects.

In a statement, Boa has emphasized the importance of this new addition to their fleet.

“This milestone marks a significant step forward in our commitment to expanding our fleet to meet future market requirements,” says the statement.

This development highlights the growing role of Chinese shipyards in constructing specialized vessels for Nordic maritime companies, reinforcing the global nature of shipbuilding and offshore industry partnerships.
