More than 1,000 visitors explored Southeast Asian food, games and traditions at Asia House in Copenhagen on 9 October, according to an estimate published by the Thai embassy on 14 October.

The event, “ASEAN Night of Colours – A Journey Through Southeast Asia”, formed part of Copenhagen’s annual Culture Night. The embassies of Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand organised the evening together with Asia House.

Visitors could collect stamps in an “ASEAN Passport” by joining activities from the participating countries, then exchange their stamps for souvenirs.

Thai food, games and workshops

In the Bangkok Room, guests could make krathong floats associated with Thailand’s Loy Krathong festival, watch Muay Thai demonstrations and try on traditional Thai clothing. The programme also included Thai films, introductory language lessons and games such as coconut-shell walking.

Food and drinks included chicken panang curry, grilled chicken with sticky rice and Thai tea.

The Thai embassy thanked the Rak Thai Association, the Thai Students and Alumni Association in Denmark and members of Denmark’s Thai community for supporting the event.

Asia House, a former headquarters of the East Asiatic Company, provided a setting connected to Denmark’s longstanding trade links with Southeast Asia.
