The parents of Lily, the Hong Kong girl at the centre of the “Save Lily” case, have filed a formal complaint with the Norrköping District Court in Sweden, accusing authorities of unlawfully detaining their daughter, The Standard reports.
The complaint was filed after the parents said they received a call on Monday from Hong Kong’s Immigration Department regarding the latest developments in the case.
According to the couple, the department has been seeking information from Swedish authorities about Lily’s deportation order through the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in London and the Chinese Embassy in Sweden.
The parents also say that their direct requests to the Norrköping District Court for a custody hearing and the removal of Lily’s court-appointed lawyer have gone unanswered.
Lily’s protection order has not been reviewed since 1 March 2024, while her deportation order has remained unexecuted for 22 months.
The parents argue that her continued detention is unlawful and violates the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
