In a meeting with Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister Trần Hồng Hà, leaders of Italy’s Fincantieri Group discussed plans for new investments in high-tech shipbuilding in Vietnam, where its Norwegian-rooted subsidiary VARD Vũng Tàu plays a key role.

VARD, part of Fincantieri since 2013, has been present in Vietnam since 2006, operating an integrated design and shipbuilding facility in Vũng Tàu. In September 2024, the company expanded its capacity from four to seven state-of-the-art vessels per year, employing around 2,500 local workers.

The development highlights how Norwegian maritime technology and expertise are contributing to Vietnam’s shipbuilding industry, while supporting the global transition toward greener and more sustainable shipping. With continued investment from Fincantieri, VARD Vũng Tàu is expected to become a hub for next-generation vessels, offshore wind support ships, and low-emission maritime platforms.
