SWEA tasting Luxembourg wines at the residence of the Luxembourg ambassador

On October the 10th, SWEA with partners, were invited to a Wine tasting evening at the residence of the Luxembourg Ambassador to Thailand, Mr. Jean Paul Senninger and his Swedish spouse Louise Åkerblom. Their beautiful residence Sukhothai is located on Sathorn Road, next to the elegant hotel Sukhothai. The apartment is located on the 40th floor with a magnificent view overlooking the bustling Bangkok. From the living room windows you could see the tallest building Mahanakhon lighted in the evening.

The ambassador surprised us all by welcoming us in an almost perfect Swedish. He is a gifted man speaking several languages fluently. Being a Luxembourger he is brought up with the Luxembourg language as well as French and German.

As an aperitif we were offered a typical Cremant Brut, Luxembourg’s counterpart to Champagne. Both those noble sparkling wines are produced the same way.

We later on had the pleasure to taste several, typical white wines (some ecologic) from the region, e.g. Cremant Brut, Auxerrois, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir, a red wine, which is more rarely produced in Luxembourg. It was interesting to listen to Jean Paul explaining a bit about the different grapes. The production in Luxembourg is not that big, so the wines are not really exported. At a private or official dinner at the residence, you do have the pleasure to enjoy these exquisite wines.

After the wine tasting, we were offered a lovely buffet that waited ready for us in the modern kitchen; an oven baked salmon, small potatoes, Quiches, cold cut, salad and a sweet apple pie. We now could choose our favorite wine to accompany the food.

As we were about 25 persons, we were sitting all over and at every corner you found the guests involved in interesting discussions.

Towards 9 pm. Anna Frummerin, SWEA Bangkok’s president, thanked Jean Paul and Louise on behalf of all of us, for their kind hospitality and handed Louise a bouquet of flowers and Jean Paul, SWEA’s popular apron with the SWEA logo.

We all went home with the knowledge about Luxembourg’s wine production, and happy after having tried so many delicious wines and great food.

A big THANK YOU from SWEA Bangkok and Auf Wiedersehen!
