Sweden and Vietnam are looking to strengthen cooperation in technology, innovation and the green transition, as the two countries seek to build on their long-standing bilateral relationship.
Swedish Ambassador to Vietnam Johan Ndisi said Vietnam’s rapid economic development and growing role in global value chains were creating new opportunities for Swedish businesses.
In an interview with Vietnam Government News published on September 1, Ndisi highlighted digitalisation, clean energy, electrification, advanced manufacturing, smart infrastructure, healthcare and sustainable urban development as areas with potential for closer cooperation.
More than 70 Swedish companies currently operate in Vietnam, according to the ambassador. They include Ericsson, ABB, Tetra Pak, AstraZeneca, Elekta, Getinge, Autoliv, ASSA ABLOY, Atlas Copco, Electrolux and H&M. Many have established local partnerships and invested in operations and skills development, rather than simply selling products in the Vietnamese market.
The relationship gained new momentum last year when Vietnam and Sweden established a sectoral strategic partnership covering science, technology, innovation and digital transformation.
Ndisi said the next stage should focus on “co-creation”, with governments, businesses, universities and research institutions working together to develop solutions for shared challenges.
Trade and investment are also expected to remain central to the relationship, with the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement providing a framework for further economic cooperation.
