Sweden awards grant to Civil Society Organizations in Cambodia

The Swedish Embassy in Phnom Penh announces the award of $ 1.5 million to support the Community Based Adaptation Program.

An extension agreement between Sweden and UNDP was signed on 10 May, 2013 in Phnom Penh by Anne Höglund, the Swedish Ambassador to Cambodia at the Embassy of Sweden and Setsuko Yamazaki, the country director of UNDP. Sweden will, through UNDP, contribute with $1,5 million for the period 2013-2015.

The extension aims at further building and strengthening local NGOs, CBOs, communities and local authorities on climate adaptation strategies and implementation. The program has already resulted in increased awareness of climate change concepts and implementation strategies within 380 local communities. More than 60,000 families have received economic benefits from the program.

Anne Höglund, the Swedish Ambassador to Cambodia says:

“We are happy to be able to continue the cooperation with UNDP and support a program that has so far produced very good results. It provides civil society organizations and local authorities with a better understanding of climate change issues, challenges and opportunities, and help communities to prepare for and adapt to climate changes”.
