Swedish Ambassador attended two meetings in Nay Pyi Taw

Staffan Herrström, the Ambassador of Sweden to Myanmar, together with colleagues from the Section Office attended two important meetings which took place in Nay Pyi Taw, the capital city of Myanmar on Monday, 18 February 2019.

In the morning of 18th, the Ambassador and delegation paid a visit to Min Naung, Tatmadaw Inspector-General. They discussed ongoing conflicts in Myanmar such as the peace process and humanitarian access.

After the first meeting, the Ambassador and delegation met with U T Khun Myat, the Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw, the Lower House of Myanmar Parliament.

Draft bills in the Hluttaw and the importance of effective consultations in the legislative process are the main topics discussed at the meeting

Moreover, the Embassy of Sweden in Myanmar affirmed Sweden’s willingness to support Hluttaw as it wrote on Facebook “Sweden is pleased to support the Hluttaw through a partnership with United Nations Development Programme.”
