Swedish Radio has examined Taiwan’s efforts to strengthen its military and civilian preparedness amid increasing pressure from China.
In an episode of Radiokorrespondenterna Kina, Swedish Radio correspondent Hanna Sahlberg discussed Taiwan’s annual Han Guang defence exercise with Marcel Mangold, Senior Lecturer in War Studies at the Swedish Defence University.
The ten-day exercise combined military training with civilian preparedness. It included scenarios involving air defence, a maritime blockade, disrupted communications and emergency response.
Mangold, whose research includes defence developments in Sweden and Taiwan, discussed what the expanded exercise reveals about Taiwan’s changing approach to security and societal resilience.
