Swedish ‘impostor’ arrested at Manila airport

Philippine immigration officers arrested a woman using a Swedish passport at Ninoy Aquino International Airport after biometric checks found she was not the rightful holder.

The Philippine Bureau of Immigration (BI) said it arrested a 21-year-old woman using a Swedish passport at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 in Manila, according to Philstar Global.

The bureau identified the woman as she is said to have tried to fly to Italy on a Qatar Airways flight.

Immigration officers referred her for secondary inspection after spotting discrepancies in her documents, the bureau said.

Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said the passport was authentic, but biometric checks showed she was not the rightful holder.

Officials said the woman is believed to be from East Africa and is being held at the bureau’s facility while deportation proceedings continue.
