A 43-year-old Swedish man has been accused of sexually molesting his 16-year-old daughter in Udon Thani, according to Thai media reports. See sources below.
The girl’s mother, a 29-year-old Thai woman, contacted local police after receiving messages from her daughter saying she no longer felt safe with her father. The girl had been staying at the home of a Thai acquaintance of the father in Udon Thani, where she had recently enrolled in school.
According to reports, the girl said her father installed a GPS tracking app on her phone and touched her inappropriately during a visit to his hotel room. She described the behavior as overly possessive and left the hotel on her own, returning to the acquaintance’s house and asking her mother to come and get her.
The father, identified only as Carl, had previously been in a relationship with the girl’s mother. She said they met on Koh Samui in 2008 when she was 13 and he was 27. The relationship ended in 2009 after she learned Carl had a wife in Sweden. He was later convicted in Sweden in a case involving a minor and served a two-year prison sentence.
Carl returned to Thailand after serving his sentence and reportedly settled in Rayong province. He maintained contact with his daughter and supported her financially. Earlier this year, he proposed sending her to study in Udon Thani, where she moved in with a Thai woman referred to as Ploy.
The mother, with police assistance, retrieved the daughter from the house. The girl later told police that she had experienced inapproprite behavious from her father on past occasions as well, including physical contact and remarks about her appearance.
Carl and Ploy later appeared at the police station. Carl denied the allegations, saying through a translator that his daughter had entered his hotel room only briefly to collect her belongings. Ploy also denied any wrongdoing and alleged that the mother had previously expressed an intent to request money from Carl.
Police have recorded statements from all parties. The girl has since returned to live with her mother, and arrangements are being made for her to continue her education closer to home.
