A Swedish retiree, Mr. Hakan, has become a victim of the iCon Group scheme, which has targeted hundreds across Asia, including Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos, and Japan.
Thai authorities have received more than 500 complaints, with total damages exceeding 200 million baht. The scheme promised high profits from selling supplementary food products, but when sales failed, participants were pressured to recruit new dealers, turning it into a pyramid scheme.
Mr. Hakan is one of many deceived, with Thai victims sharing their stories online, revealing the scheme’s wide reach. Reports suggest over 1,000 people in Laos, including celebrities, were recruited.
The investigation continues as more victims come forward.
