Vietnamese ambassador in Sweden honours late Lao parliamentary leader

Vietnam’s Ambassador to Sweden, Trần Văn Tuấn, has paid tribute to the late President of Laos’ National Assembly, Xaysomphone Phomvihane.

The ambassador and representatives of the Vietnamese Embassy visited the residence of Lao Ambassador Bounthavy Vilavong in Stockholm on 11 August, where they signed a book of condolences.

Xaysomphone Phomvihane, a member of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party’s Politburo and one of the country’s most senior political figures, died on 8 August following an illness.

In his message, Ambassador Trần Văn Tuấn highlighted Xaysomphone Phomvihane’s contribution to Laos’ development and to the longstanding relationship between Laos and Vietnam.

The two ambassadors also reaffirmed their intention to maintain close cooperation between their diplomatic missions in Stockholm.

Laos observed five days of national mourning following his death, while Vietnam held two days of national mourning.
