Yesterday evening, Wat Arun temple in Bangkok lit up in bright blue for World Children’s Day, organized by UNICEF Thailand.
November 20 marks World Children’s Day, an occasion when UNICEF lights up iconic landmarks globally in blue to draw attention to children’s rights. This year, Wat Arun joined the initiative, symbolizing a shared commitment to creating a better future for every child.
Globally, an estimated 330 million children live in extreme poverty, many in conflict zones. Additionally, 200 million suffer from malnutrition, while 559 million face intense heatwaves due to climate change.
In Thailand, children face similar challenges, including limited access to education, healthcare, and protection from exploitation. UNICEF’s “A Better Tomorrow Today” campaign calls on individuals, communities, and organizations to unite in addressing these issues.
Similar light-up events have occurred at landmarks such as Vietnam’s Dragon Bridge, Greece’s Acropolis, and the Simatai Great Wall in China, standing as symbols of global solidarity for children’s rights.
