Expansion contract signed in Vientiane

Danish brewery contractor Danbrew has signed a EURO 6.875 million expansion contract with Lao Brewery Co Ltd, who makes Beer Lao.
The deal was inked in Vientiane last Tuesday.
Danbrew will deliver and install new brewing equipment over a 13 month period, boosting today’s 85 million litres a year capacity to 120 million annually.
The Danes will also provide technical assistance and training to the Laotian brewery. Laos’ beer market has grown steadily the last years and Lao Brewery plan to build one more brewery, by 2006, to cope with the higher demand.
For Danbrew the contract is good regional news after its owner, Carlsberg, broke ties last year with the Thai brewers that make Beer Chang.
One of the casualties in the not yet solved conflict between the Thais and Danes is Danbrew who lost an expansion deal with the Thai brewery in Kamphengpaet.
Carlsberg has still not made a comeback to the Thai market.
