Taiwan observed 103 Chinese military planes around the island between Sunday and Monday morning local time. The country is asking China to stop the “destructive” military activities, which could lead to the escalation of tensions between China and Taiwan.
40 of the 103 aircrafts crossed the so-called median line in the Taiwan Strait, which separates the self-governing island from China. This is according to a statement made by the Ministry of Defense. Others of the planes flew south of Taiwan over the waters that separate the island from the Philippines.
China considers Taiwan part of its territory and has threatened to invade the self-ruled island if the authorities there declare formal independence.
