PNBC Gives Donation to 21 Boys

21 boys under the care of the ERDA Tuklasan Center in Ibuna St., San Juan, Metro Manila, Philippines woke up to a brand new, exciting day last Thursday 19 April 2012. It was the day their old library was installed with audio-visual equipment composed of a 32-inch Plasma TV, and DVD player, a surround-sound home theatre speaker system, 2 microphones, and a wide array of educational DVD materials ranging from the sciences to reading & phonetics.

The turnover ceremony was held at the Tuklasan Center, a halfway house founded by TOFIL Awardee Fr. Pierre Tritz (SJ) under the ERDA umbrella in the 1990s. PNBC VP for External Affairs Ozone Azanza represented the Council in this event, which was also attended by Fr. Tritz himself alongside the staff and officers of the Center.

Dubbed as the H.E.L.P. project (Helping in Education and Learning Process), the donated facilities are expected to help the Tuklasan boys acquire more knowledge and tools that would augment the learning process that they get from the four corners of a regular classroom. This will hopefully allow them to develop skills that would later allow them to join the mainstream society as productive members rather than deadweights.

PNBC’s decision to focus its CSR activities on Education is hinged on the belief that as one of the MDGs, Education is key to development. This aligns well with the conviction of Fr. Tritz that Education is the key to breaking the vicious cycle of poverty and illiteracy.

Through these CSR endeavours, PNBC aspires to bring rays of hope to the project beneficiaries.
