Swedish PM to visit Myanmar and Indonesia on Nov 12-14, expects to meet Then Sein and Suu Kyi

Sweden’s Fredrik Reinfeldt will be the nation’s first Prime Minister to visit Myanmar. The PM in accompany with Swedish Trade Minister Ewa Björling and other two business delegations, will arrive in Myanmar on Nov 12 before heading to Indonesia for Nov 13-14.

In Myanmar, a programme of diplomatic visits includes talks with President Thein Sein and Aung San Suu Kyi, along with the opening of a business seminar.

The agenda of the visit to Myanmar is potential for increased trade and investment between Sweden and Myanmar, the future of development cooperation, democracy issues and how to increase respect for human rights including the rights of ethnic minorities, an official report stated.

In Indonesia, Fredrik Reinfeldt will hold talks with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and meet the large Indonesian conglomerates ASTRA.

Issues expected to be discussed during the visit include economic and political developments in Indonesia and Sweden, as well as those in the regions of Asia and in Europe. In addition, bilateral relations will be discussed with a focus on trade, investment and innovation, and the further democratization, as well as climate change.
