1st of Advent with Swedish Embassy and Swedish School Organization Bangkok

Christmas is soon to come, just around the corner. Sunday December 1st, our Swedish Ambassador Mr. Staffan Herrström with spouse Karin, invited Swedes to their beautifully decorated residence, to enjoy a short 1st Advent service by our priest Erik Stenberg-Roos and with a little help of spouse Anna.

Traditionally Karin lightened the 1st candle and everybody joined in the classic Christmas chorals.

During this time, kids in all ages, from the Swedish School Organization in Bangkok, prepared themselves for the Santa Lucia performance. These students have been practicing several Saturday mornings the classic Santa Lucia songs and how to walk. It was an eager expectation and both helping parents and kids were excited as well as a little nervous. Would the youngest kids be able to walk slow and to stand still and behave? I can reveal that they all did.

At 11.45 am they were ready to walk in to the reception room and meet their expectant audience.

The Santa Lucia song sounded nice and also the following songs were well performed. The audience were good listeners and there were many proud grand parents and parents. Nothing unexpected happened, everything went smooth, which made us who were responsible very pleased and grateful. Lot’s of applause followed the kids when they left the room.

Changing the Lucia gown, the maid gowns, the Gingerbread dresses and the small “Tomte Nissar” outfits into normal clothes and back to the reception rooms for well earned juice, coffee, tea with delicious home baked bread by the Swedish Chef Andreas.

The adults enjoyed the traditional “Glögg”.

The atmosphere was warm, as usual at the residence and everybody seemed to be in Christmas mood despite the light blue sky and shining sun.

A wonderful morning for both young and old.

Next performance by the kids will be at the Thai/Swedish Chamber of Commerce December 14th. so if you weren’t lucky to enjoy the Lucia celebration today, you still have a second chance. A big THANK YOU to students, parents, our priest with spouse, the Swedish School Organization and last, but not least, to our lovely Staffan & Karin.
