The Singapore Vikings Bags 7 Goals To Secure Top Half Finish

Cosmoleague, Swiss – Vikings FC   2
– 7   (1 – 3
    The Vikings
faced Swiss in this match, which were their last game of the season. Despite the
heavy downpour the pitch at St. Josephs Institution was in good condition. Looking
at the Cosmoleague table it was easy to see how important this match would
prove to be. A win might secure 5th spot for The Vikings and they were surely very
keen on taking this opportunity to finish the season on a high. In the middle.
    The match didn’t
start as the mainly Danish players wanted, as Swiss were in control and
creating some decent chances. They fully deserved took the lead within 10
minutes, but after that goal it was all Vikings.
    The
deserved equalizer occurred when Kim Oe made a nice through pass to Tommie, who
made no mistake from inside the box. The most spectacular goal of the match
came only 5 minutes later, when the Viking defensive midfielder Calonso scored
from his own half. The Swiss goalkeeper was unable to deal with the
shot/clearance from Michael Calamari, as the quick bounce on the wet surface
simply surprised the goalie.
    Shortly
after it turned 3-1, when Michael Oestergaard took full advantage of Peter Lund’s
beautiful through pass. He outran the Swiss defender and passed the goalie to
score in the empty net. No one would have expected Michael Oestergaard to
outrun anyone, but he surely did on this occasion and he really had a good game
this Saturday afternoon.
    3-1 at half
time, but was no secret there was still a lot to be done to secure the three
points. In our last game against Swiss we threw away a 4-1 lead and we of
course didn’t want that to happen again. The Scandinavians dominated the rest
of the match and quick 2nd half goals from Kim Oe and Daniel putted the game
beyond any doubt.
    Tommie got
the 6-1 goal before Swiss pulled one goal back. At the end Chris Sorensen
scored his first goal of the season to make it 7-2, as he made a cool finish
following his breakaway from the half way line.
Great
performance by all the Vikings in this match. Several players deserved the man
of the match award, but well deserved Jonas claimed the award and earned
himself a new watch from our main sponsor Carlsberg.
    Tommy, the Viking with the
biggest horns topping his Viking cap, say thanks to everyone for a great season. Sponsors
and supporters have been great and it has been to see so many people coming out
on Saturdays to support our team. This has been great for all the players and
made all of us enjoy playing for the Vikings. Let’s build on this for next
season, where we must be aiming for a top 4 finish.
