The Philipines Seeks Norwegian Advice on Renewable Energy

The Philippine Ambassador in Oslo, Elizabeth Buensuceso, has stated the embassy is
seeking Norwegian cooperation and assistance to renewable energy and outsourcing – the
country’s two top core competencies. She met recently with Norwegian Foreign Minister
Jonas Gahr Store to discus cooperation on renewable energy development and
distribution after the passage of the Renewable Energy Bill late last year to reduce the
country’s reliance on traditional sources of energy such as oil and gas.
This effort, she said, is in line with the country’s drive to fulfill its ambition to be
the leader in terms of production and potential in geothermal energy by 2013.
According to the International Geothermal Association (IGA) the Philippines is second
only to the United States in producing geothermal energy worldwide.
