Norway Donates Money to Typhoon Ketsana Victims

The Viet Nam Red Cross has received nearly US$2.7 million in donations to Typhoon Ketsana victims, society chairman Tran Ngoc Tang said Tuesday.
Typhoon Ketsana, which struck the central provinces of Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue in in early September, was the most powerful storm to hit Viet Nam in 45 years. It left 162 dead, 17 missing and 620 injured while destroying more than 170,000 houses.
Earlier this week the Norwegian Government announced its donation of more than $400,000 to help victims of the storm, including 4,000 flood-affected families. MasterCard Worldwide donated $50,000 and last week the German government donated more than $300,000.
Early this month, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies launched an emergency appeal to raise 4.9 million Swiss francs ($4.75 million) to assist victims of the storm and floods.
