Badminton – Denmark and Thailand takes home bronze in Malaysia

Despite of a brilliant win in men’s doubles, the Danish team had few chances at the semifinals of the prestigious Sudirman Cup – the World Championships for teams.

”We will do our best to reach the final. I think it is going to be a great team effort with lots of excitement,” said the Danish women’s singles player, Line Kjærsfeldt before the semifinals.

When it came to the semifinals there were no real excitement in the total scores. The Danes played the top seeded Chinese who won 3-1 after big wins in mixed doubles, men’s single and women’s single.

The Danish team had to settle for the bronze with Thailand as third place is shared at Sudirman Cup.

Eventhough the Danish team was defeated by the mighty Chinese it is worth mentioning that Denmark won the men’s doubles match. Olympian silver medalists Carsten Mogensen and Mathias Boe defeated the top players Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng 21-16, 21-17 after a great Danish match.

China won the gold at Sudirman Cup for the ninth time.
