Danish brewer Carlsberg has signed two letters of intent covering a brewery expansion in Hue and investment commitments in Da Nang.

The documents were exchanged in Copenhagen on 20 October during the Vietnam–Denmark Business Forum. Vietnam’s leader To Lam and Denmark’s King Frederik X attended the ceremony.

According to Vietnam’s government, the agreement with Hue City People’s Committee concerns investment in expanding Carlsberg’s brewery at Phu Bai Industrial Zone. The separate agreement with Da Nang City People’s Committee covers Carlsberg Vietnam’s investment commitments for 2026–2030.

Neither investment amounts nor a construction schedule are specified in the government’s announcement. The documents are described as letters of intent, leaving the details of implementation unclear.

Builds on earlier brewery expansion

The Hue agreement follows an earlier expansion of Phu Bai Brewery, inaugurated in August 2025.

Carlsberg invested nearly US$90 million in that project, increasing brewing capacity by 50 per cent. The expansion made Phu Bai the group’s largest beer production facility in Asia.

The company said the upgraded brewery included a brewing line using less water and energy, alongside new packaging equipment and electric forklifts.

Carlsberg first invested in Vietnam in 1993. Its portfolio in the country includes the local Huda brand alongside international brands such as Carlsberg and Tuborg.

Dansk Industri also lists both new agreements among the business deals announced during the forum.
