Novo Nordisk-backed kitchen brings healthier meals to 1,500 Bangkok pupils

A new central kitchen at Wat Don School in Bangkok is set to provide healthier school meals to almost 1,500 pupils as part of a cooperation between Bangkok, Denmark and Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk.

The kitchen, launched on 5 October, will prepare nutritious meals not only for pupils at Wat Don School but also for students at six other Bangkok schools in the Sathorn and Bang Rak districts.

The initiative is part of the “Bangkok, City for Better Health” programme, a partnership between the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), the Danish Embassy and Novo Nordisk. The programme aims to promote healthier lifestyles and address obesity, particularly among children.

The central-kitchen model was included in the partnership when the three parties signed a memorandum of understanding in November 2025. According to the BMA, the Wat Don kitchen was selected as the pilot facility for seven schools, with the aim of improving nutrition, food safety and hygiene standards.

Novo Nordisk is supporting the programme with nutritional planning and systems for monitoring school meals, while the Danish Embassy is part of the wider Danish-Thai cooperation on urban health.

The initiative is one of several elements of the partnership, which also includes a childhood obesity curriculum and improvements to public recreational spaces inspired in part by Copenhagen’s approach to urban activity.
