Norwegian trout exports fell by 32 per cent in September compared with the same month last year. Thailand remained among Norway’s three largest trout markets.
The Norwegian Seafood Council released the figures on 5 October. Norway exported 5,664 tonnes of trout worldwide during September, worth NOK 554 million. Export value fell by 18 per cent compared with September last year.
Thailand joined the United States and Poland as the largest markets. The report does not give separate export figures for Thailand.
Lower supply drives decline
Council market analyst Paul T. Aandahl attributed the decline mainly to lower Norwegian trout supplies. Changes in fish stocks, harvest schedules and producers switching to salmon affected export volumes.
The September decline followed a weaker third quarter overall. Norway’s trout export volume fell by 23 per cent during July–September, while export value dropped by 11 per cent.
