The Danish Church in Thailand is inviting families to a Fastelavn celebration and children’s service on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at 10:00 AM, hosted at the Danish Embassy in Bangkok.
The event will begin with a family-friendly church service led by Pastor Nicolaj Stubbe Hørlyck, accompanied by musicians from the Danish Church in Thailand. Attendees will learn about the traditions of Fastelavn, a Danish festival similar to carnival, and take part in singing Danish hymns and songs.
Following the service, children and adults alike can enjoy the traditional “tøndeslagning” (barrel-beating game), where participants take turns hitting a decorated barrel until it breaks, revealing sweets inside. As per tradition, the Cat King and Queen will be crowned, and prizes will be awarded for the best costumes. The event will conclude with a gathering featuring Fastelavn buns, the ambassador’s pancakes, and refreshments.
