Denmark and Cambodia have signed an agreement on regular diplomatic talks covering trade, economic relations and development cooperation.

Danish diplomat Christian Tobias Bayer Tygesen co-chaired the first round of consultations in Phnom Penh on 30 October. His Cambodian counterpart was Nong Sakal, Under Secretary of State at Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Tygesen heads the Danish foreign ministry’s department covering Asia and other regions.

The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding establishing a framework for regular consultations between their foreign ministries. Senior officials will also use the meetings to discuss regional and international issues.

Next meeting in Denmark

Denmark will host the second round of consultations. The Cambodian announcement did not provide a date.

The agreement follows earlier efforts to strengthen bilateral ties. In March, ScandAsia reported on discussions about closer cooperation ahead of the countries’ 60th diplomatic anniversary in 2027.

Those discussions highlighted trade, investment and economic development. The latest agreement now provides a formal framework for continued dialogue.
