The conference was an opportunity for Myanmar government, media companies, journalists, civil society organizations, and international organizations to report on concrete progress achieved in pursuing media development and reforms in the country. Denmark supported the conference and Danish Ambassador to Thailand, Myanmar and Cambodia, Mikael H. Winther and Chargé d’Affaires a. i. Mr Ulrich Sørensen both attended.

He furthermore emphasized that freedom of speech is a basic human right and that an independent and professional media plays a key role in a country’s transition to democracy.
