Denmark supports Sumatra rainforests conservation

The Harapan rainforest is managed as an ecosystem restoration concession. It’s rich biodiversity includes the Sumatran Tiger, Asian Elephant, Malayan Tapir, Sunbear and numerous birds and reptiles. Harapan is also home to the indigenous Bathin Sembilan people.

Conservation has many challenges in Indonesia’s fast growing economy. Forest encroachment is one of them. Dialogue with adjacent communities looking for land is one way of tackling this challenge, writes the Embassy of Denmark in Indonesia
