Denmark to play in Badminton World Team Championships – meet the players

Malaysian Danish Business Council (MDBC) invites members and the Danish Community in Malaysia to participate in the Sudirman Cup – World Team Championships in badminton- to cheer the Danish team on May 19 at Putra Stadium.

Join this unique opportunity for members and the Danish Community to get together and watch the Danish Badminton Team at the Sudirman Cup.

The tournament is played in Kuala Lumpur from May 19 to May 26. When Denmark plays it will be without key players Peter Gade and Tine Baun who have both retired. Gade and Baun are two of the only players in Europe who really challenged the Asian top players. Still, the goal is medals.

“Of course we are aiming for medals. It will be a bit harder to achieve at this cup because we are in the middle of a big change after Gade and Baun,” said Coach Lars Uhre to ritzau.

The Cup has never been won by a non-Asian country; Denmark is the only European country that came close to winning it, in 1999 and 2011.

MDBC has reserved an area on the opening day on May 19 2013. Denmark will be up against Singapore on Court 2 (TV court) in their first group match in group 1D and the two teams will challenge each other in 5 matches. A representative of the Danish team will give a short presentation prior to the games, and following the games you will get a chance to meet the Danish players. Participants will also enjoy light refreshments.
