Embassy of Sweden in Vietnam trains media managers in freedom of expression

On Friday 15 March the Embassy of Sweden presented certificates to media managers from all over Vietnam for having passed the national training programme set up by Voice of Vietnam and Swedish Radio (SR) and funded by the Embassy of Sweden.

The project aims at training media managers in freedom of expression, governance and management skills, including a focus on transparency and access to information. The programme has in three years trained media managers from 16 organisations with approximately 75 participants. The programme has so far been very successful with participants being interested and eager to actively participate. Project manager Jan Petersson from SR says that it is now up to the participants to further the work achieved during the training course and to spread awareness on the importance of transparency and good journalism.

Head of Development Cooperation Ms Maria Selin told the participants how pleased she was to see the positive outcome stemming from this training. The media sector has been a crucial sector for the past 20 years of Swedish development cooperation in Vietnam. She also said that the media sector ought to be a top priority to further human rights in Vietnam. She looks to the participants to continue the development of the media sector as the programme is now coming to a close.
