Finnish Customs has now wrapped up a preliminary investigation of a group suspected of importing nearly two dozen kilograms of cannabis from Thailand to Finland. The operation was uncovered in 2023, and the suspects were arrested last autumn. Four of the five men have since been released. But now the case has been handed over to the Prosecution District of Southern Finland.
The operation, conducted in the Uusimaa region of Southern Finland, led to the arrest of five men, four of whom are Thai nationals. The men are believed to have smuggled at least 25 kilograms of marijuana into Finland.
“The drugs were transported to Finland by courier, mostly through Germany,” says Hannu Sinkkonen, Director of Enforcement at Finnish Customs. “In Finland, the marijuana was mainly distributed within the Thai community.”
The street value of the seized drugs is estimated at approximately EUR 375,000.
The investigation revealed that packages were delivered to multiple addresses in the Helsinki metropolitan area.
