The Philippine Embassy in Copenhagen has brought together more than 20 Filipino scientists, researchers and students for what it described as the first gathering of its kind in Denmark.
The event, titled Connecting Minds: Filipino Scientists in Denmark, took place at the embassy on 4 September 2026. Participants represented Danish universities and research institutions across several science-related fields.
Philippine Ambassador Pablito A. Mendoza said the knowledge, professional networks and experience gained by Filipinos in Denmark could contribute to scientific and technological development in the Philippines.
Leah J. Buendia, Undersecretary for Research and Development at the Philippine Department of Science and Technology, joined the gathering online. She introduced the department’s Balik Scientist Program, which seeks to connect Filipino experts based abroad with research and development work in the Philippines.
Ludwig Aguilar, a senior research and development engineer at Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk, also spoke at the event. Aguilar, who founded the Philippine company Byco, shared his experience of working within Denmark’s research and innovation environment.
The participants discussed the Balik Scientist Program and possible future initiatives for Filipino scientists, researchers and students based in Denmark.
