IKEA is set to open its first store in Chiang Mai on February 27, 2025, marking its fifth location in Thailand. The new store, named IKEA Chiang Mai Plan and Order Point, will be located at 171, Moo 7, Mae Hia Sub-district, Mueang Chiang Mai District.
Leonie Hoskin, Retail Manager of IKEA Thailand and Vietnam, emphasized the importance of physical stores despite the rise of online shopping.
“Customers value the experience of seeing, touching, and trying products,” she said.
“The Chiang Mai store follows the “Life Xpress” concept, a retail collaboration with Decathlon, CP Future City, CP AXTRA, CP All, and TRUE, and will be located within Makro Hang Dong.”
The store will span over 700 square meters and function as an IKEA Order Point, offering over 300 cash-and-carry items, design consultation services, and a Click & Collect service for online orders. It will also feature a Swedish Bites corner, serving snacks like ice cream, cakes, hot dogs, and pick-and-mix jellies.
With an investment of 15 million baht, IKEA aims to expand beyond Bangkok and test this new retail model in Chiang Mai. If successful, similar stores may be introduced in Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Rayong, Surat Thani, and Hat Yai.
The store will operate daily from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM, with planning and ordering services available until 7:00 PM. Customers can book design consultations online, and IKEA also offers assembly services.
