Finnish cargo-handling company Kalmar has secured an order for 12 hybrid straddle carriers in the Philippines.
Philippine terminal operator International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) ordered the machines for its new South Luzon Container Terminal. The terminal forms part of Bauan International Port in Batangas.
The deal marks Kalmar’s first delivery of straddle carriers to a Philippine terminal. Kalmar added the order to its third-quarter figures for 2026. The company plans to deliver all 12 machines by the third quarter of 2027.
According to Daniel Ho, Vice President for GTO Key Account Management at Kalmar, the companies already work together at several terminals worldwide. He also highlighted ICTSI’s decision to use Kalmar’s hybrid technology for its new Philippine terminal.
The agreement includes Kalmar’s MyKalmar INSIGHT system for all 12 machines. The system will help ICTSI monitor and manage the fleet.
In addition, Kalmar will provide a simulator. ICTSI will use it to train new operators and refresh the skills of existing staff.
New terminal to handle 1.6 million containers annually
The South Luzon Container Terminal lies around 110 kilometres south of Manila. Once complete, it will have an 800-metre quay and a 38-hectare terminal yard.
Moreover, the terminal will have annual capacity for 1.6 million twenty-foot equivalent units.
Arthur de Jonge, Senior Director for Projects and Systems at ICTSI, described the project as a major investment. He said the order builds on the companies’ long-term partnership.
