Meet the new priest of Danish Seamen’s Church in Hong Kong

Since the current priest notified his resignation, the Danish Seamen’s Church has been searching for a new. After a long process regarding two qualifications rounds, the Church committee were all in agreement and happy to announce Anders Skaaning Andersen to be the new Seamen’s priest.

“He brings both solid and new experiences, which can support the great progress of the Seamen’s Church in Hong Kong,” says Peter Minor, the foreman of the Danish Seamen’s Church in Hong Kong.

At the moment the 33-year old new elected priest lives in Denmark. Here Anders works as a priest for Himmerlev Church, but in the beginning of next year 2016 he will be located on the other side of the world at the Seamen’s Church in Hong Kong. It might seem like a radical change, but Anders already has a past of living abroad when he was junior assistent at the Seamen’s Club in Algeciras in Spain.

Qualification rounds were held in both Denmark and Hong Kong. Together with the other candidates Anders should test preach a sermon and attend an interview with the Church committee of Hong Kong. They had to chose between two qualified applicants, and the committee took their job as spokesperson for both the church and the seamen very seriously. Finally, they decided Anders was the best suited person to become their new priest and take over their current Hans Aage Koller.

Anders will begin from 1 January 2016.

“All of us in the community hope he will be meeted and greeted well, and we wish him all good luck in the future,” Peter Minor says.
