NordCham Vietnam Held Emergency Meeting in Response to New U.S. Trade Measures

Nordic enterprises in Vietnam moved swiftly last week to assess potential fallout from new U.S. trade defense measures, culminating in a high-level business briefing in Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday 10 April 2025.

Amid rising concerns over recent shifts in U.S. trade policy—including possible steep tariffs on goods from Asia—Nordic businesses in Vietnam proactively evaluated risks and formulated contingency plans.

Earlier in the week, the Nordic Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (NordCham Vietnam) convened an emergency meeting in Hanoi, bringing together its Board of Directors and senior representatives from the Embassies of Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden. The closed-door session focused on identifying potential threats posed by the new U.S. trade measures and exploring their implications for Nordic manufacturers and exporters operating out of Vietnam.

In response to these developments, NordCham partnered with leading Nordic financial institution SEB to host a Breakfast Business Briefing on the morning of Thursday 10 April at the Sofitel Saigon Plaza in Ho Chi Minh City. The event provided an in-depth analysis of the evolving trade landscape, potential risks to global supply chains, and emerging opportunities for businesses adapting to the shifting environment.

Keynote speaker Eugenia Fabon Victorino, Head of Asia Strategy at SEB, shared expert insights on the ASEAN market. The event also featured H.E. Nicolai Prytz, Ambassador of Denmark to Vietnam, alongside representatives from international business chambers including AusCham and BritCham.

Co-hosted by AusCham Vietnam and BritCham Vietnam, the high-level gathering underscored growing concern among international chambers of commerce in Vietnam about rapidly changing trade dynamics—and highlighted the importance of coordinated responses and shared intelligence.

Founded in 1999, NordCham Vietnam is a non-profit, non-governmental, and non-political organization representing Nordic businesses from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden operating in Vietnam. With over 150 members across various sectors, NordCham plays a pivotal role in fostering trade, investment, and knowledge exchange between Vietnam and the Nordic region.
