Nordic nations and Singapore lead global peace index

Singapore has been ranked number six on the EIP in 2025.

Singapore has been ranked the most peaceful nation in Asia and sixth in the world, according to the Global Peace Index 2025 released this week by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP).

The island state stood out for its strong safety and security measures, while Nordic countries once again dominated the global top 10. Iceland retained its long-held position as the world’s most peaceful country, followed closely by Denmark in eighth and Finland in tenth place.

The rankings are based on an emphasis on social stability and community trust that is present in both Singapore and the Nordic region.

While Singapore’s high placement is attributed to low crime rates and strict enforcement of laws, the Nordic countries are highlighted for their strong institutions, inclusive societies, and low levels of conflict and militarisation.

The Global Peace Index noted that peace in the Asia-Pacific region declined slightly in 2025, yet Singapore’s top placement, alongside Nordic countries’ continued leadership, illustrates how small nations with effective governance models can achieve global recognition for security and stability.
