As part of the celebrations of the 120th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Norway and Thailand, the two countries have launched an Agri-Hackathon aimed at advancing Thai agriculture through innovation.
A hackathon is a time-limited competition where teams collaborate intensively to develop innovative solutions to specific challenges, often using technology and creative problem-solving. In the context of this Agri-Hackathon, students are being asked to apply technology and creativity to solve real challenges in Thai agriculture — with a focus on sustainability and innovation. So it can include business plans, engineering ideas, apps, or social innovations too.
The launch ceremony on Friday 18 July 2025 took place at Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Participants included Norwegian Ambassador to Thailand, Astrid Emilie Helle; Krongkanit Rakcharoen, Director-General of the Department of European Affairs; Assistant Professor Dr. Krit Won-in of Kasetsart University; and Nantiya Pitakwongdeengam, Managing Director of Yara Thailand.
The competition, themed “Farming the Future: Advancing Thai Agriculture through Innovation,” invites Thai university students in their 2nd to 4th year to develop creative, technology-based solutions for sustainable and resilient agriculture.
Entries must fall under one of three themes:
-
People – Food security and human well-being;
-
Planet – Environmentally sustainable farming;
-
Prosperity – Strengthening agricultural supply chains.
Applications are open from 15 July to 15 August 2025. The top 15 teams will be invited to a 3-day workshop and final pitching round from 12–14 September 2025 at Kasetsart University, Bangkhen Campus.
