Philippine Embassy discusses future of Filipino au pairs in Denmark

The Philippine Embassy in Denmark has met with key Danish and Philippine agencies to address the future of Filipino au pairs in the country. The meeting, held on Monday 21 July 2025, brought together representatives from the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) and Denmark’s Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI).

According to the embassy, the discussion focused on the viability of the au pair program, the current conditions experienced by Filipino au pairs, and the improvement of pre-departure orientation seminars. The participants also explored potential long-term pathways for au pairs after the completion of their stay in Denmark.

As of June 2025, 81 percent of all au pairs in Denmark are Filipino nationals. However, the total number of au pairs in the country has significantly declined over the past five years.

The embassy said the meeting was convened in response to a “felt need” to strengthen protection mechanisms and ensure that Filipino au pairs continue to benefit from the program under fair and supportive conditions.
