The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Yangon has welcomed Svenn J. Bjerkem as its new Minister Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission.
Bjerkem brings with him more than three decades of experience at the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with extensive expertise in public diplomacy, protocol, and consular affairs. His diplomatic career includes postings in Africa’s Sahel region, where he worked on development and humanitarian aid during his assignment in Bamako, as well as a recent role in Helsinki focusing on security and defense policy.
In a Facebook post, the embassy expressed Bjerkem’s excitement for the job and his interest in exploring Myanmar’s rich history and culture through its literature. He looks forward to working with local partners and building connections with the people of Myanmar.
