Norwegian ambassador Christian Lyster of the Embassy in Manila paid a courtesy call to Vice Admiral Jose Ma. Ambrosio Q. Ezpeleta, Flag Officer-in-Command of the Philippine Navy, on Monday morning at Navy headquarters.
The meeting was held in support of the Arms Management and Destruction (AMD) program, an initiative backed by Norwegian People’s Aid. The program is meant to promote the responsible management and disposal of weapons and ammunition to prevent unauthorized access and reduce security risks.
Ambassador Lyster was accompanied by Deputy Head of Mission Geir Michalsen, Norwegian People’s Aid outgoing AMD Program Manager Daniele Redelinghuys, and incoming Program Manager Ross Devlin.
Norway underlined its continued commitment to peace and security efforts in the Philippines and the wider region, emphasizing the importance of cooperation in creating a safer future.
The Norwegain visit comes after last week’s incident, where two Chinese vessels collided near Scarborough Shoal in the disputed South China Sea after a run-in with a Philippine coast-guard vessel.
