
A Norwegian man’s Thai wife was seriously injured after being shot by a former monk in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, on Tuesday 23 April 2025. The attacker, identified as 48-year-old Pongsakorn Sangthong, then fatally shot himself, according to reports from Amarin TV.
The incident took place in Pak Chong district, where the woman lived with her Norwegian husband. Local police said that Pongsakorn, who had recently left the monkhood, had developed romantic feelings for the woman while he was still ordained. After she rejected his advances, he confronted her at her home and shot her before committing suicide.
The woman, 45, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Her Norwegian husband was reportedly present at the time of the incident but was not harmed.
Police are continuing their investigation into the case.
