The Philippine Embassy in Norway, led by Ambassador Enrico T. Fos, visited Longyearbyen on 29–30 August 2025 to meet local authorities and join the Filipino community in a series of cultural and religious events.

During a meeting with Longyearbyen Mayor Terje Aunevik, discussions focused on issues affecting Filipinos in Svalbard and initiatives to enhance cooperation with the local government. Ambassador Fos expressed appreciation for the welcoming environment provided to Filipinos, while Mayor Aunevik highlighted their contributions to services and tourism in the town, which has become an increasingly important hub for Arctic travel.

The following day, the Filipino community gathered for a Holy Mass at Svalbard Kirke, celebrated by Filipino priest Fr. Johan Dumandan. More than 60 participants, including guests from Oslo and Drammen, attended what was described as the first Filipino mass in English held in Svalbard in recent memory.

Later that evening, over a hundred Filipinos welcomed the Embassy team. Ambassador Fos praised the community’s dedication and spirit, noting their role in bringing warmth to the Arctic setting.
