Authorities in the Philippines are stepping up investigations into criminal activity facilitated through online gaming apps, with Roblox singled out as a platform increasingly used to target children, I Gaming Expert reports.

Roblox is an online gaming and creation platform where users can design, share, and play games created by themselves or others.

The Philippine National Police’s Anti-Cybercrime Group has been tasked to examine risks such as grooming, exploitation, and predatory behavior, underlining that child protection now extends into cyberspace.

Roblox, with more than 111 million daily users – around 40% under the age of 13 – has long faced scrutiny for gambling-like mechanisms in its in-game currency, Robux.

While the company prohibits actual gambling, third-party websites have enabled betting with Robux, raising serious concerns.

This issue is not unique to Southeast Asia. In 2025, the Danish Gambling Authority (DGA) warned that illegal Robux betting sites allow children and young people to access gambling directly through their Roblox login.

Following warnings from the Danish Gambling Authority about illegal Robux betting, Philippine authorities are now moving to tighten investigations into Roblox-related crimes.
