A Dane and an Icelander were among 52 gamblers arrested when Thai police raided an illegal poker gambling den in Bangkok’s Bang Kapi district on Tuesday night. The operation, carried out by the Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB), uncovered a high-stakes setup inside an air-conditioned warehouse in Soi Phokaew. Authorities seized gambling chips valued at approximately 51 million baht.
The raid took place at 9:12 PM on 4 March 2025, following a tip-off about the illicit gambling operation. Officers from the MPB and Ladprao Police Station arrested the suspected organizer, identified as 39-year-old Mr. Sithisak (surname withheld), along with 51 gamblers of various nationalities, including Thai, Vietnamese, Israeli, Belarusian, Pakistani, Danish, Indian, Chinese, Singaporean, Icelandic, and Russian individuals.
Police confiscated three poker tables, 66 decks of playing cards, laptops, a banknote counting machine, a digital timer, and chip storage boxes. The seized poker chips included high-value plaques worth 100,000 baht each, contributing to the estimated total of 51.4 million baht in gambling assets.
Authorities stated that all suspects admitted to gambling illegally and were transported to the Investigation Division of the Metropolitan Police Division 4 before being handed over to Ladprao Police Station for legal proceedings. Mr. Sithisak faces charges of organizing illegal gambling, while the other suspects have been charged with participating in unlawful poker gambling.
