Royal Danish Embassy signs important Memorandum of Understanding

The Royal Danish Embassy in China and Nanjing Municipality signed a government Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in order to support a Sino-Danish Eco-Park in Nanjing.

On March 20 the Royal Danish Embassy in China and Nanjing Municipality signed a government Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in order to support the establishment of a Sino-Danish Eco-Park in Nanjing.

Friis Arne Petersen, the Ambassador of Denmark to China, met with Yang Weize, party secretary of Nanjing municipality to discuss the importance of sustainable urbanization.

The vision of the MoU is to build the Nanjing pharmaceutical industry park into a truly green and energy efficient industrial park based on Denmark’s experience in industrial park planning, construction and management as well as Danish eco criteria and solutions. It is also the hope that the project will become a replicable showcase in China.

Further strengthening of cooperation
The government MoU is a further strengthening of the Strategic Cooperation Agreement signed by Nanjing High Tech Zone in Beijing and seven members of corporate network “Green China” in December 2012. According to the Strategic Cooperation Agreement the Sino-Danish Eco-Park will be built in Nanjing Bio-pharmaceutical Valley with the Danish eco-design standards. The “Green China” network – which consists of COWI, Danfoss, AVK, Rockwool, Velux and NNE Pharmaplan – has the responsibility to recommend partners for advanced technologies and solutions.

The Strategic Cooperation agreement between Nanjing and “Green China” was signed because of the Denmark and China’s common concern towards the environment and people’s well-being. The government in Nanjing has big ambitions for the development of Nanjing as an attractive city for businesses and people based on sustainable principles. The idea is to use “Green China” as a platform to provide holistically packaged solutions, including concepts, technologies and solutions to support the planning and construction of the Sino-Danish Eco-Park for pharmaceutical industry in Nanjing High Tech Zone.

With the new government MoU Danish companies are guaranteed a role in the establishment of the Eco-Park in Nanjing.

State visit in Denmark 2012
The new agreement between the Royal Danish Embassy in Beijing and Nanjing Municipality is based on a Memorandum of Understanding on energy efficiency in buildings that was signed between the Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Building and the Chinese Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development during President Hu Jintao’s state visit to Denmark in June 2012. The MoU now works as a framework and an instrument to support Danish companies’ work within the agenda of sustainable urbanization.
