Magnus Berglund, Scandic’s Director of Accessibility, was invited to speak at the AccessAbility Perspective Seminar in Singapore on 22 November. The event was arranged by the Embassy of Sweden in Singapore and was mainly focused on how the tourist sector can improve accessibility for guests with special needs.

Scandic is the largest Nordic hotel operator with a network of 230 hotels with almost 44,000 rooms in seven countries and annual sales of SEK 12.2 billion 2015.

“Scandic’s commitment to accessibility issues is an important element and hopefully the company’s experience and methodology will serve as a model and inspiration for the tourism industry in Singapore where interest in these issues is increasing among businesses, agencies and organisations alike. Seeing a private company like Scandic leading the way when it comes to accessibility arouses curiosity”, says Håkan Jevrell, Ambassador of Sweden to Singapore.

Scandic introduced “Design For All” at the seminar – a concept that has become important in accessibility work. It means that accessible rooms should always be well designed and offer discrete solutions to aid those with special needs.
