SE Asia low on freedom of press

The recent imprisonment of two Myanmar journalists is only one of several incidents creating a general image of Southeast Asia as a region with little freedom of press.

And in the 2018 World Press Freedom Index the region ranks very low. China and Vietnam ranks as the very lowest with the authoritan regimes ruling in the communist countries where critizism of the goverment can be seen as treason and result in year-long sentences.

Scandinavia in general ranks high, but the recent murder of the Swedish journalist Kim Wall by the Danish inventor Peter Madsen has sent Denmark five spots down from 2017, placing the country as the country with the 9th most freedom of press.
